Sabine Lüthy takes over as CEO of Swiss Aids Care International

Harare (Zimbabwe) / Zurich, 2 November 2011Sabine Lüthy, previously a presenter and editor with Swiss Radio DRS, is to take over as CEO of the Swiss Aids Care International foundation on 1 January 2012. The foundation was set up in 2003 by her father, Dr. Ruedi Lüthy, and runs a clinic for HIV and AIDS patients and a training centre in Zimbabwe. With Sabine Lüthy taking over as CEO, this ensures that the foundation’s work will be carried on in keeping with her father’s vision and ideals over the long term. He will continue to head the clinic on-site in Harare.

Sabine Lüthy will initially be working in Switzerland. The daughter of Ruedi Lüthy will take over as CEO of Swiss Aids Care International on 1st January 2012. This ensures that the foundation’s work will be carried on in keeping with her father’s vision and ideals over the long term. Sabine Lüthy gave up her position as an editor and presenter with the radio station DRS3 at the end of October to work together with the current CEO, Susann Mäusli and familiarise herself with her new role. Dr. Ruedi Lüthy will remain in charge of the Newlands Clinic in Zimbabwe’s capital Harare, working as a doctor and AIDS specialist. In the clinic and mobile treatment units, Ruedi Lüthy and his team treat and care for around 3,800 HIV and AIDS patients every month. In the affiliated training centre, some 200 local doctors and care workers are trained every year.

Dr. Ruedi Lüthy: “Ever since I set up Swiss Aids Care International, I’ve been asking myself what would happen when I step down. Now I have the answer to this question. I am very grateful and delighted that my daughter, Sabine Lüthy, has decided to manage the foundation in the future. I will stay in Harare as long as I am able to do so, and will gradually hand over the wide range of tasks involved in operating the foundation to Sabine. On behalf of the entire Foundation Board, I would also like to give my sincere thanks to our current CEO Susann Mäusli, who has managed the foundation from the outset with tremendous commitment and skill.”

Sabine Lüthy on her new role: “As a passionate radio journalist, I was of course sad to leave Swiss Radio DRS. That said, I am really looking forward to taking on my new role, because Swiss Aids Care International and the Newlands Clinic carry out excellent and essential work for the untold numbers of HIV and AIDS patients in the country. In taking on this job, I am pleased to be able to preserve my father’s life’s work, and to carry it forward in the future.”

Sabine Lüthy (42) worked in various stints with Swiss Radio DRS from 1996 to the end of October 2011. She studied journalism and communications at the University of Fribourg. After an internship with the regional magazine for Zurich, she was editor for the domestic news coverage and presenter of the Focus programme. She also worked as editor and presenter of the DRS3 programme “Input” for seven years. Sabine Lüthy lives with her husband and two sons in Muntelier in the Canton of Fribourg.
