In September 2011, the Amavita network of pharmacies called on children to draw pictures for the children in Zimbabwe. This proved to be a resounding success, with whole school classes and kindergartens supporting the campaign. Nearly 3,000 drawings were handed in at the pharmacies across Switzerland. Amavita donated CHF 25 per drawing, and then rounded the amount up to CHF 100,000.

The cheque was presented to Dr. Ruedi Lüthy in the Amavita pharmacy at Zurich Airport on 12 December 2011 by Galenica Group CEO Etienne Jornod. Kurt Aeschbacher, who is a member of the Patronage Committee, was also present. Dr. Ruedi Lüthy said: “On behalf of all our patients and employees, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to Amavita and Galenica for this generous donation. With CHF 100,000, we can provide comprehensive treatment and care for 170 patients in the Newlands Clinic for an entire year. This is an important contribution towards further improving the living conditions of the many HIV and Aids patients in Zimbabwe.”

This campaign marks a further key milestone in the long-standing cooperation between Galenica, to which Amavita belongs, and Swiss Aids Care International. Galenica has regularly made generous donations to the foundation in recent years.
