The foundation Swiss Aids Care International wants to help people with HIV and AIDS in the poorest countries of the world, people who would otherwise have no chance of receiving care. Without effective treatment, millions of people will die from AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa over the coming years, and their only hope is support from abroad. This is why the foundation Swiss Aids Care International was set up.
In its outpatient clinic, Swiss Aids Care International provides comprehensive medical treatment and care, while at the same time taking into account the local circumstances and customs. With our mobile units, we can also take our help out into the villages, which is important given that many of the patients can’t afford to travel to the clinic. As many of the patients are very poor, we also provide additional support in the form of courses on vegetable growing, distributing food, physiotherapy and extra tuition for children.
Swiss Aids Care International wants the help it gives to have a lasting effect, and we want to pass on knowledge and expertise. We provide ongoing training to local doctors, nurses and care workers so that they can treat people with HIV and AIDS throughout Zimbabwe. Other key aspects covered in their training are preventative measures and psychosocial counselling.
Unlike in Switzerland, where most people know how HIV is transmitted, in many developing countries people don’t have a clear understanding of the problem. We therefore do all we can to explain the disease to our patients and their family members. We are particularly committed to preventing mother-to-child transmission of the disease, which is possible with a minimum of effort and means.
